Staying On Course As You Live Your Inspired Life

Exerpt from The Journey to Your Dream, by Gina Castellano

Every man needs to have something he follows that serves him as a lodestar… he who follows the beautiful and the good may feel himself strengthened by this saying. —The I Ching

The Lodestar

A lodestar is a star that is used as a reference point. Sailors stayed on course by following the lodestar – especially the North Star and Venus. The North Star is famous for holding nearly still in our sky while the entire northern sky moves around it. Venus is not only the second planet from the Sun, it is the brightest star in the sky, visible without a telescope and easily accessible for guidance. It is said that the bright star of Venus guided the Maji to Bethlehem. In mythology and astrology, Venus is the Goddess of Love and Beauty. She represents what we value and how and what we attract to ourselves.

Desire is Our Lodestar

The meaning of the word ‘desire’ from the Latin “of the stars” is a nautical term referring to sailors staying on course by following a star. One needs the star to steer one’s ship across the black sea at night.  The star is transcendent, permanent, reliable.  Lose the star, lose your desire, and you’re in trouble – aimless, adrift, depressed. Our desires for the life we want to live are our most reliable guiding stars!

Desire Summons Life Force

Discovering your own personal Lodestar is the kind of experience that can change your world. It’s like falling in love or becoming possessed by a creative passion. It generates an energy so compelling that it automatically holds your attention – like anticipating wonderful moments with your beloved. Is it a creative project, a relationship, a travel adventure? Discovering your Lodestar illuminates the path of your inspired life and sets in motion the continuing evolution of your desires.

Knowing What You Desire is the Key

Desires are not static thoughts, hopes or wishes that are separate from your life experience. The comparative experiences between what you want (your desire) and what you are living (life experience) helps you to continue to refine your desires. Viewed from this perspective, you might see how your experiences – even those that seemed random or negative up until now – have contributed positively to where you and who you have become.

Something to Consider

I invite you to take a moment to look back at two major life experiences that once seemed negative which you now can see have contributed positively to where you are in your life.
